Martyn Thompson - Landscape Photography together with the Agave School (Pita Escuela) offer you a fantastic value two day experience in the photographer's paradise of Los Molinos del Río Aguas, a unique oasis of wonder in Paraje Natural Karst en Yesos de Sorbas in the Province of Almería where you can do ALL of the above!
Combining photography with an overnight visit to this picturesque valley, you will not only get to explore and photograph this area of outstanding beauty but will learn about and possibly take part in the activities of the Agave School, our home during this experience.
The Agave School is an environmental and cultural association founded in 2008 by German artist Timbé who first came to Los Molinos del Río Aguas in 1993. Timbé has now adopted the research into the uses of Agave plants as a way of life and uniquely specialises in giving new life to the agave wood.
The Andalucían land-house which is host to the Agave School, is a good model for self-sustainability and comfort. The 2Kw of solar power, river water supply and eco-futons in all the rooms, are all adapted to a respectful lifestyle.
What is included in the price?
This is a fantastic value experience and includes;
- transport from and back to (area around) San José / Almería airport (includes most of Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata).
- a guided two-hour tour around the wonderfully photogenic valley of Los Molinos del Río Aguas (full photography experience the following day)
including;
- an introduction to the beautifully situated Agave School (Pita Escuela) and their projects,
- the many diverse uses of the Agave plant (Pita),
- a brief history of the area, the old roman irrigation systems and life in this Andalucían oasis .
- vegetarian evening meal using mostly locally sourced produce and traditional recipes (non-vegetarian group option available on request for additional €2 per person)
- overnight accommodation
- typical Spanish breakfast (fruit juice, coffee, toasts, jams, Magdalenas)
- a guided four to five hour photography experience around Los Molinos del Río Aguas where there will be plenty of opportunities to photograph the surrounding flora and fauna; flowers, insects, birds and if we're patient, turtles.
If there is a full moon during the time of our visit, there will be an opportunity for some night photography to those who wish to take part. Please click here to view photographs taken by the light of a full moon.
The cost of this experience based on four people sharing is €120 per person. We can also accommodate couples only for €180 per person. For different sized groups and one-to-one experiences, we would offer a special price on request.

There is also a very reasonably priced bar for refreshments, alcoholic drinks and freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee.
